Prepare blueprint for commercial use of cow dung & urine, Sonowal tells Vet Dept

Assam CM asks Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department to create footprint of its sell points not only in Assam but in other NE States

In a bid to put in commercial use of the huge availability of cow dung and urine, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department to prepare a blue-print for profit making business of cow dung.

Chairing a review meeting of Veterinary Department at the conference room of Chief Minister’s office in Janata Bhawan on Tuesday evening, Sonowal asked the top functionary of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department to prepare a blue-print for the same to exploit the rich potential of cow dung and cow urine in the state. He also requested Agriculture Minister Atul Bora to do everything feasible to revamp Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department to tap the huge possibility of the veterinary and animal husbandry sector in the state.

Emphasising on the huge demand of milk products along with poultry products in the state, Chief Minister Sonowal asked the department to formulate egg, meat and milk policy in Assam so that the state can take pragmatic steps for flourishing the veterinary sector in the state. He said that a well organised veterinary sector besides generating employment avenues will also contribute to GDP in the state. He also stressed on skill based training to stimulate the entrepreneurial and professional skill of the people associated with veterinary.

Speaking on the huge market for poultry and milk, Sonowal asked the department to create footprint of its sell points not only in Assam but in other North Eastern states. He also asked the department to create demands of the state’s  veterinary products even in ASEAN countries. He also asked the department to organise interaction with successful businessmen in veterinary sector to help the department to utilise its fullest potentials, stated a government press communique.

Sonowal also assured government’s help including subsidy to the department for setting up of 200 productions units under Public Private Partnership mode in the state.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor Shantanu Bharali,  senior officers of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department were present at the meeting.
