Preparations are going on in full swing ahead of Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi‘s three-day Barak Valley visit from Thursday.  During his tour, the Governor will visit the historical site, Malegarh Fort, on April 20. This fort is famous for the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

Located near Assam-Bangladesh border at Latu in present Karimganj district, Malegarh Fort is always a place of curiosity for the tourists. But due to lack of initiatives, the fort is yet to emerge as a place of tourist attraction.

However, in the last few years, the government and local administration have given attention towards bringing back the historical fame of Malegarh.

The district administration of Karimganj is now busy in making the Governor’s visit a fair one. Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar Talukdar, BSF Commandant Jugeshwar Das and Patkai Tracker NGO official Mriganka Krishna Gogoi are busy in giving final touches to the preparations for Governor’s visit. The wife of the Deputy Commissioner, Dipali Talukdar, is also involved in the organising body of the function to be organised on the occasion of the Governor’s visit to the fort.

During his visit, the Governor will unveil a book titled ‘Mohavidroher Ranaddhwoni’ written on the background of Sepoy Mutiny, which gradually sparked the spirit of India’s Freedom Movement. Mriganka Krishna Talukdar, who is in the charge of compiling the book, said, “This is an outcome of serious historical study and the book will certainly be able to hold a universal value.”

As per information, during the Sate Governor’s visit, the tourism potential of the entire Barak Valley would be presented before him. The Governor will also visit the Indo-Bangladesh Trade Centre located in Sutarkandi border.

During the Barak Valley visit, the Governor will also speak with representatives of several organisations and various linguistic and religious groups.
