After the visit of Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi on March 23, who was shocked at the disproportionate number of teachers against students in Hamren Government Girls High School, the authorities concerned geared up to take action in the matter.
The State Governor during his visit found that there were 10 teachers to teach just 19 students.
As per information, the Hamren Government Girls High School in West Karbi Anglong will be converted into co-education institution. The decision was taken up during the special enrolment drive-cum-sports meet organised by RMSA and SSA, Karbi Anglong at the school.
District Consultant, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Karbi Anglong, Dawa Sangpo Tamang told Northeast Now, “A meeting on special enrolment drive was organised in Hamren Govt Girls High School in presence of the parents, teachers, villagers and the village headmen to have a discussion on the possible ways to increase enrolment in the school. The parents of feeder schools of Hamren Govt Girls High School were also present.”
It may be mentioned that the Assam Governor Mukhi during his tour to West Karbi Anglong visited the school and questioned about low number of students in the school.
The school has Classes VI to X.
There was an effort by the school authority, parents and school managing committee to convert the school into English medium and permission from the State education board has been granted informed Tamang.
District Consultant, RMSA, Tamang said the RMSA, SSA and Elementary and Secondary Education department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) have taken an initiative to improve the school and increase the number of students’ enrolment.
“RMSA and SSA have requested the villagers and SGBs to send children to the school. There are various government schemes to help students to study in schools and the parents need not to worry that due to poverty they cannot send their children to schools. There will be hostel facility for girl students,” said District Consultant, RMSA.
