Post gold win, congratulations pour in for Hima Das & Co

Congratulatory messages are pouring in from across the country lauding the stupendous victory of Indian women team led by sprinter Hima Das in 4×400 m women’s relay in Asian Games 2018 on Thursday.

In the event India won gold while Bahrain won silver, the Vietnam team won bronze in the event.

Apart from Assam’s 18-year-old Hima Das, the other members of India’s women team were Poovamma Raju Machettira (28 years), Gayakwad Saritaben Laxmanbhai (24 years) and Velluva Koroth Vismaya (21 years).

After the gold win, President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated India’s women team.

President Kovind in his Twitter handle on Thursday stated: “Congratulations to our Golden Girls – Hima Das, MR Poovamma, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth for winning the Gold in the Women’s 4x400m Relay at the Asian Games 2018. Daughters of India continue to make us all proud!”

While congratulating Hima Das and her team for the win, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted: “Stupendous by the team of Hima Das, PR Machettira, Saritaben Gayakwad and VV Koroth to convincingly win the gold in Women’s 4×400 m relay.”

This was Indian women team’s fifth gold win in a row in Asian Games.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: “Another Gold Medal for India in Athletics. India’s women athletes bring home the Gold in the 4×400 metres relay at the Asian Games. A proud moment for the country. Congratulations to Hima Das and her team on their stunning performance and victory.”

India finished at 3:28.72 seconds, Bahrain finished at 3:30.61 seconds while Vietnam finished at 3:33.23 seconds.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted: “BRAVA TO OUR FIERY LADIES! We won GOLD in Women’s 4×400 m due to their SENSATIONAL performance! KUDOS!!”

Congratulating Hima Das and her team, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Stupendous team work. Brilliant run by Hima Das, Poovamma Raju, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth got us another gold in 4×400 M in Asian Games 2018.”

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted: “What a superb performance in relay race both from men and women.” Lauding Hima Das’s brilliant start, Patnaik added, “Terrific start from Hima Das ensured a gold in 4x400m women’s relay of AsianGames 2018…”

The Assam Congress also congratulated Hima Das for winning gold. “Congratulations to Hima Das for winning gold in Women’s 4X400 Metres relay. This is her third medal at the 10th Asian Games Jakarta – Palembang 2018. You make us proud.”
