A gun battle between police personnel and rhino poachers took place near Burhapahar forest range in Kaziranga National Park on Friday midnight. According to police sources the gun battle lasted for about an hour. However, no casualty was reported and the suspected poachers managed to flee from the spot under the cover of darkness.

Sources said that the Special Task Force and Jakhalabandha police personnel spotted three suspected persons armed with sophisticated arms and ammunition roaming near Burhapahar on NH-37. When the police personnel asked them to stop they started fleeing from the spot.  

The sleuths then opened fired and the gang also retaliated by firing on the police. The gun battle lasted for around an hour. The gang of poachers managed to flee towards Bagse reserve forest of Karbi-Anglong under the cover of darkness.
