Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Lachit Borphukan on Lachit Diwas. 

PM Narendra Modi hailed Lachit Borphukan for his valour. 

PM Modi said: “Today, on Lachit Diwas, I pay tributes to the brave Lachit Borphukan.” 

“He is widely remembered as the torchbearer of valour, honour and the upholder of the splendid culture of Assam. He remained committed to the ideals of equality, justice and dignity for all,” he added.

Lachit Diwas is celebrated annually on November 24 to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan. 

Lachit Borphukan was born on November 24, 1622, in Charaideo and is known for his military intelligence in the Battle of Saraighat.
