77 Mountain Brigade (CHINDITS) celebrated their 75th Raising Day (Platinum Jubilee) with ceremonial fervour at Balipara today.

The highlight of the occasion was the release of ‘First Day Cover’ by Major General PS Behl, GOC, Red Horns Division. It was followed by an army dog show and a combat free fall demonstration by a team of Army Special Forces.

The CHINDITS brigade is one of the oldest brigades of the Indian Army. It was formed on June 10, 1942 at Sagar, Madhya Pradesh by the legendary Brigadier, Orde Wintage, DSO as a specialised brigade.

They performed long range penetration tasks behind enemy lines to fight the Japanese during the second World War. The brigade since its formation has participated in numerous operations and has a rich and illustrious military history.

To commemorate the momentous occasion, numerous events spread over two days commencing from December 23 have been planned.

Many serving and veteran officers, junior commissioned officers and others with a number of civilian dignitaries will attend, to mark 75 years of dedicated service of CHINDITS brigade to the nation.
