The Kamakhya Temple authorities have announced a major relaxation for devotees planning to visit the temple.

Devotees to the Kamakhya Temple from now onwards will no longer require to a carry a COVID-19 negative report.

The decision was made by the Kamakhya Temple authorities as the COVID-19 situation in Assam has shown improvement in recent weeks.

“However, everyone must wear a mask and maintain social distancing,” the Kamakhya temple authorities said.

Earlier, to enter the main premises of the Kamakhya Temple, one needed to produce COVID-19 negative test results.

One of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peeths, Kamkhya Temple in Guwahati is situated on the Nilachal Hills, in the western parts of Guwahati.

There are ten individual temples dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas of Saktism.

They are Kali, Sodashi, Tara, Bhuvaneshwari, Chhinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Matangi, Bgalamukhi, and Kamalatmika.

The Kamakhya Temple re-opened for devotees in the second week of October last year after it closed its doors on March 20 owing to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
