The placement process started at IIT Guwahati on Tuesday (December 1, 2020) in a virtual mode and 69 offers were made on the day.

Companies such as Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Adobe, Quadaye, Oracle, Walmart, Bajaj, American Express, Uber, Accenture Japan, MTX and many more have participated in the first day of the placement drive at IIT Guwahati.

Job offers have been already been made in profiles such as Software Development Engineer, Member Technical staff, Hardware, Machine learning, Data Science, Business Analyst, Quant, Core Engineering (Automobile), Analyst, Product designer, Graphic designer and several other sectors.

IIT Guwahati in a statement said 69 offers were made on the day.

The placement drive is centrally coordinated from IIT Guwahati campus with all the recruiters from various companies and eligible students participated virtually from different locations of the country.

“Students were given training on the virtual platform in advance for an efficient and smooth process,” the statement said.

Although the students were not physically present in the campus, the entire placement process was being executed in a similar manner to that of the physical mode done in previous years, it said.

Speaking on the placement process, Prof. Abhishek Kumar, Head, Center for Career Development said: “IIT Guwahati is conducting the placement this completely in an online mode and the institute is glad to mention that the highest package offered this year so far is already much higher than last year’s highest package.”

IIT Guwahati informed that 133 students from the institute have already received pre-placement offers (PPOs) before the commencement of the actual placement drive.

Despite the Covid19 pandemic, the number of PPOs offered this year is equivalent to that of the last year which shows that the overall placement scenario has not been affected so far in 2020 and the institute hopes that the overall placement statistics improves compared to last year, it claimed.

IIT Guwahati Director Prof. T. G. Sitharam said: “The year 2020 has seen the placement process happening online and the number of recruiters joining the virtual placement has been very encouraging despite the pandemic and we are thankful to all the recruiters.”

“The students of IIT Guwahati, who are appearing for the placement from across the country are very determined and are likely to benefit from this online process due the equal opportunity provides to them as other institutes,” he said.

“We expect an upward trend in placement this year at IIT Guwahati,” the Director further said.
