Police have arrested four persons, including a woman, in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Lakhipur area in south Assam’s Cachar district close to the Manipur border.
The IED was recovered by Cachar district police on November 23 at Jujam near the Lakhipur area in Cachar district.

Cachar district SP Ramandeep Kaur said that four persons including a woman who worked as a source for the Manipur-based insurgent group People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested by police in connection with the detection of the IED.
“Of the four arrested persons include a 39-year-old woman who is a resident of Joypur in Lakhipur area and she is a source of the PLA,” SP Kaur said.
The arrested woman has been identified as Rakibul Nessa.

She further said that preliminary investigation suggested that the IED was planted in the area to target Manipur officials.
“We have registered a case in connection with the detection of an IED and during investigation, we have arrested four persons, including a woman so far,” Kaur said.
