Assam government spokesman Chandra Mohan Patowary said this on Wednesday.

Patowary said PFI state president Aminul Haque and publicity secretary Md. Mozammil Haque have been arrested while police are on the lookout for the president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, Kamrul Islam Chaudhary, and NSUI top leader Juber Alam for their alleged involvement in the violence.

“We came to politics through a national movement in Assam. Almost all the members of our government are aware of the value of a national movement,” said Patowary.

“We respect the democratic movement which is currently underway. But those responsible for violence are different ones,” he said adding that the government would identify the perpetrators of violence.

“Today, I am here to clarify that our government is committed to the protection of jati, mati, bheti and language, and we are duty-bound to protect these. There will be no compromise on these issues at any cost,” he added.

“The agitators are not perpetrators of violence. But a third party is taking advantage of the situation and wanted to destabilize the state in the name of protests.”

“Our government will not accept this and the government is committed to protecting life and property of people,” the minister said.

He said the incidents of violence that took place recently would affect the development works carried out by the government in the last three years.

“The 22 lakh unemployed youths in Assam will be affected by this kind of violence,” he said adding that the government will take action against those political forces, which had encouraged the violence.

The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2019 (now Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019) turned violent in Guwahati and four persons were killed in police firing.
