As part of his campaign for the upcoming panchayat polls in the State, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Saturday addressed several election meetings in Biswanath district.
Uploading a few images of the election campaign meeting at Baghmora under Bihali LAC in Biswanath, APCC president Bora stated on his Twitter handle on Saturday: “Addressed Panchayat Election Campaign meeting today at Baghmora under Bihali LAC with Sri Dilip Barua, DCC President Biswanath, Premlal Ganju, Secy. APCC and many other senior leaders of the district.”

The Assam Congress president also addressed voters and party supporters during an election campaign meeting at Nij Bihali under Bihali LAC.
He tweeted: “Addressed another Panchayat Election Campaign meeting at Nij Bihali under Bihali LAC.

Claiming that more than 20 workers of the BJP youth wing joined the Congress during the meeting, Ripun Bora also tweeted: “In this meeting more than 20 nos. BJP Youba Marcha workers joined Congress party.”
He also addressed Panchayat Election Campaign meeting at No.1 Sootia GP along with Dilip Barua, DCC president, Abdur Rahim Ahmed, APCC general secretary, Premlal Ganju, APCC secretary and others.
The Congress workers also took out a bike rally in Biswanath LAC.
Bora also addressed another election campaign meeting at No 1 Sootia Gaon Panchayat where he was accompanied by Dilip Barua, DCC president, Abdur Rahim Ahmed, APCC general secretary , Premlal Ganju, APCC secretary and others.
“In the evening at Biswanath LAC and addressed Panchayat Election campaign meeting at No.1 Sootia GP with Sri Dilip Barua, DCC President, Abdur Rahim Ahmed, GS APCC, Premlal Ganju, Secy. APCC and many others,” tweeted Bora.
He also addressed a Panchayat election campaign meeting at Panibharal GP of Biswanath LAC on Saturday.
It may be mentioned that the panchayat election will be held in Biswanath district in the first phase on December 5, 2018 in its two subdivisions – Biswanath Sadar and Gohpur.
As per media reports, 1,180 candidates will contest the Panchayat polls in Biswanath Sadar subdivision. It has been reported that around 2,90,130 voters will exercise their franchise in nine Zila Parishad seats, five Anchalik seats and 42 Gaon Panchayat seats. Among the 1,180 candidates, 29 candidates are in the fray for Zila Parishad seats, 107 for Anchalik Panchayat seats, 106 for Gaon Panchayat president seats and 938 for ward member seats. A total of 51 candidates have already been declared uncontested.
In the Gohpur subdivision of Biswanath district, 975 candidates will contest the Panchayat elections while around 1,71, 927 voters will vote in four Zila Parishad seats, two Anchalik Panchayat seats and 34 Gaon Panchayat seats. Among the 975 candidates, 8 are in the fray for Zila Parishad seats, 81 for Anchalik seats, 94 for Gaon Panchayat president seats and 792 for ward members. A total of 10 candidates have already withdrawn their candidature while 10 candidates have been declared uncontested.
