Indrani Mukerjea on Thursday said that the arrest of former Union finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case is “good news”.

Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea are the former promoters of INX Media Group.

Mukerjea, the prime accused in Sheena Bora murder case, was produced in a sessions court to attend a trial on Thursday.

“Chidambaram’s arrest is good news. He is now cornered from all sides,” Mukerjea told reporters.

She also said that the bail granted to Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media case should also be cancelled.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Indrani Mukerjea had given a statement claiming that she and her husband met the former finance minister at his office in Delhi’s North Block.

Mukerjea further claimed that that Chidambaram had asked her to help his son in his business and make overseas remittances.

In return, Chidambaram promised the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media.
