Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday informed that over 1,200 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Guwahati within a week from June 24-June 30.

“A total of 1,212 persons have tested COVID-19 positive in Guwahati from June 24 to 30,” Sarma said while addressing the media on Wednesday.

“If we add the 157 cases that have been detected today, the number is close to 1,400,” he added.

“It may be noted that 382 COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Guwahati yesterday alone,” he said.

“The situation in Guwahati is critical and we are closely monitoring the situation,” Sarma further said.

He also informed that the lockdown in Guwahati is stricter this time and he thanked the denizens for following the protocols strictly.

The minister further informed that from Friday people will have to get their COVID-19 test results within an hour.
