Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs on Monday submitted privilege notices against former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi for his remarks that he attends the Rajya Sabha when he feels so.
“I go to the Rajya Sabha whenever I feel like it,” Justice Gogoi, who is a nominated MP of Rajya Sabha, had told NDTV in an interview recently.

As per reports, Trinamool Congress MP Mausam Noor and Jawahar Sircar as well as a couple of MPs from Congress submitted the notice.
Noor also wrote separately to the Ethics Committee of Rajya Sabha on the issue.
Justice Gogoi’s statements are in contempt of the Rajya Sabha, undermine the dignity of the house and constitute a breach of privilege, the notice submitted by two Trinamool Congress MPs said.

Parliament records show that Justice Gogoi signed in for less than 10 per cent of all sittings since March 2020.
If the Rajya Sabha chairman finds merit in the notice, it can be forwarded to the house Privilege Committee. Based on the report of the committee, if a privilege motion is passed in the Rajya Sabha, members stand to lose their Rajya Sabha membership.
