After Baghajan gas well fire, the Oil India Limited (OIL) heading towards a new crisis as at least 100 employees and officials of the public sector company including the chairman and managing director (CMD) Sushil Chandra Mishra have tested positive for Covid-19.

“Nearly 100 employees of OIL including CMD were infected to the virus. Many of them were recovered and some were admitted at hospital and others are undergoing home quarantine,” OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika told Northeast Now.  

 He said the entire exploration work and production of OIL hit hard due to the crisis.

Despite several attempt, OIL have not been able to douse the fire at the Baghjan gas well in Tinsukia district.

The Baghjan blowout occurred on May 27 and on June 9 a massive fire broke out following an explosion.

“The work at Baghjan hampered due to the Covid infection. Many officers were infected with the virus and now they are recovering. OIL has faced huge losses due to the successive crisis,” said a source.
