National People’s Party (NPP)’s Silchar candidate Nazia Yasmin Mazumder has written to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal seeking his party’s support in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“I have discussed with the leaders of my party in this regard. Since the AIUDF has a significant presence in terms of members and supporters in Silchar constituency and they have not fielded any candidate for the seat, so I have written a letter to Ajmal seeking their support,” NPP candidate Nazia Yasmin told Northeast Now.
The AIUDF, which is contesting only in three seats, has not fielded candidate in Silchar constituency.
The party is contesting in Dhubri, Barpeta and Kamringanj, from where it has the three sitting MPs.
“Badruddin Ajmal has appealed to all his supporters to go for conscience voting and choose the right candidate. I think this will work in our favour. We are the only party in Silchar who are opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, so I am sure of getting conscience voting on our side,” she pointed out.
In Silchar seat, while Congress has fielded incumbent MP Sushmita Dev, BJP has nominated Rajdeep Roy.
Nazia Yasmin said that Meghalaya chief minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma is likely to visit Silchar to campaign for her.
