A tree plantation drive was organized by B. Tech department, DUIET of Dibrugarh University on Saturday, at its premises.

The plantation drive was organized as part of the Auxesis, Techno Cultural cum Management mega festival, organized by the students of B. Tech department.

Renowned environmental activist, popularly known as ‘The Forest Man of India’, Padmashree recipient Jadav Molai Payeng was present on the occasion.

Jadav Molai Payeng, in the presence several faculty members and students, planted several saplings and guided many others for the plantation.

Students of different departments of the university took part in the noble cause.

During the event, Jadav Payeng urged the society and its youth to come forward and give our planet the hope of a cleaner and greener environment where each living being is in harmony.

Planting trees must be a responsibility for everyone as it is the only way we can pass on a healthier world to our new generations. Our planet desperately needs our help and it is the youth that can bring a change. He emphasized the role of the youth in shaping the fate of our planet and its people.

Jadav Payeng further elaborated how trees are being cut down to pave the way for new industries, building and large cities to come up, leading to massive deforestation. So, he asked everyone to be address such problems by planting trees anywhere we can and also organize awareness programmes for the benefit of the society.

The event also witnessed active participation from Jiten Hazarika, Dean of Student affairs, Dibrugarh University, Dr Pramathesh Bhattacharyya, Director of DUIET, Mr Prasun Banik, Faculty Convenor of Auxesis 8.0, Jyotirmoy Kalita, Students Convenor of Auxesis8.0, Dr Himadri Barman, Life time member of AARANAYAK Society, David Kardong, Programme Co-ordinator NSS.
