The first super-specialty COVID-19 hospital of the Northeast was formally inaugurated in Guwahati on Friday.
This COVID-19 hospital has come up beside the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital GMCH).
The COVID-19 hospital was inaugurated by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his deputy Pijush Hazarika.
The hospital has come up at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
Addressing media persons, Sarma informed that UV radiation equipment has been imported from Canada that are being installed in the hospital.
The health minister also said the hospital is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology.
The hospital has 200 beds and 60 intensive care units (ICU).
The hospital has been readied for the third phase of patients infected with coronavirus.
Symptomatic patients will only be admitted to this hospital.
The hospital is also equipped to perform critical operations as well as and a labour room.
Sarma also claimed that the state Health department is prepared to treat 5000 COVID-19 patients at one time.
The health minister further said after the COVID-19 pandemic is over, the hospital will function as a general super-specialty hospital.
