No road, no electricity, yet sesquicentenary celebration mood gripped Nobdi Langting villagers in Dima Hasao for two days from January 13. Over seven decades of deprivation apparently failed to dampen their spirit.

For two days from January 13, the villagers forgot all the negligence, deprivation meted out to them by the authorities. The village has no electricity. Neither has it any motorable road.

One hundred fifty years of existence but the village roads are there in papers only. Yet the villagers of Nobdi Langting were all smiles at the venue of celebration.

The two-day celebration from January 13 witnessed colourful dances by the villagers. Villagers of different age groups performed traditional BaiDima dance.

On the first day of celebration a 150 year memorial pillar was unveiled by the Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa.

Surprisingly there was a CEM in the autonomous council from the village. But the condition remained the same.

The village is popular for sesame cultivation. But the economic condition of the villagers is not up to the mark due to communication and infrastructure bottleneck.  Politicians lacked will to take any step in this regard. Those came out of the village for higher studies never showed intention to go back to the village.

Promises are galore from the politicians as they are ‘trying their best’ to bring a change in near future.  But in this digital era, condition of Nobdi Langting remains the same as it was before independence or from the day of its existence.
