Union minister of state for social justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said there has been no record of atrocities against SC/ST in Assam in 2020.

According to a media report, Union minister Athawale reviewed the schemes of the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment and the implementation of the schemes in Assam with the senior officials of the state government.
Athawale said he has visited the state following instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his ministers to provide every kind of assistance to the people of the Northeastern region from their respective ministries.
The minister had discussions with the officials of the social welfare and other departments regarding the implementation of the central government schemes meant for the welfare of the rural population, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and the disabled people of Assam.

The minister said he has been intimated that 7% of the population in the state belongs to the SC whereas the ST population is 15% of the total population.
Under the scholarship scheme, Rs 59,000 crore has been allocated for a span for 5 years, the Union minister informed.
He also informed that 60% of the amount under the scheme will be from the Centre and 40% from the state.
The Union minister said every year there will be an increase of 5% of the Centre’s share till the share reaches 80%.
The minister said no incident of atrocity has been recorded against SC/ST people in Assam in 2020 and lauded the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government for it.
Athawale informed that 1,62,000 divyangs have received the divyang pension of Rs 1,000 every month in Assam.
