The Niti Aayog has taken steps in several sectors for facilitating overall and balanced regional development of the northeastern states of the country including recommendation for one-time special grants.
In its year-ender report, Niti Aayog said that India Energy Security Scenario (IESS), 2047 was revamped in 2015 and was used to determine INDC targets. Niti Aayog also supported Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Assam for the “Development of State Energy Calculator”.
The policy think tank of the Centre, Niti Aayog, has recommended release of one-time special assistance to Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura for the areas covered under Sixth Schedule of the Constitution during the 12th Five Year Plan period.
Niti Aayog launched SATH that aims at initiating transformation in two key social sectors—education and health, by hand-holding states towards improving their social sector indicators and providing technical support over three years.
A major school consolidation and integration programme has been initiated with over 26,000 schools merged for better efficiencies and utilisation of resources. Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Karnataka were selected to improve their healthcare delivery and key health indicators.
It may be mentioned that most of the Northeastern States lack modern and efficient healthcare facilities especially to treat critical diseases and that forces a large number of patients from the region to go outside to avail better treatment facilities incurring heavy expenditure.
