The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities will be imposing a fine of Rs 500 on passengers violating Covid-19 guidelines in railway stations and while travelling by trains in view of the alarming surge in positive cases in India.

The NFR is providing necessary assistance to the Assam health department in conducting Covid-19 tests in all railway stations in the state after testing of passengers arriving by trains and air have been made mandatory.

The railway authorities have asked all passengers to travel with minimum luggage and wear face covers/masks and adhere to social distancing while travelling by trains.

All passengers are also to download and use the Aarogya Setu application before undertaking the journey.

A total of 573 tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours Assam, with 245 testing positive in Kamrup (Metro) district alone.

The disease has claimed the lives of four more people, taking Assam’s total death toll to 1,127.

A total of 2,22,940 positive cases have been detected in the state, of which 4,089 are active cases.

On arrival at their destination, the passengers will have to adhere to prevailing health protocols of the destination state.
