The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has detained 806 people so far this year for needlessly pulling alarm chains and causing delay of trains.
NFR on Tuesday requested people through its official Twitter handle to stop pulling alarm chains if they do not have any valid causes otherwise they might have to pay a heavy fine.
NFR also requested the people to pull alarm chains only when need arises and needless pulling of alarm chains only leads to delay in running time of the trains.
NFR tweeted:
‘Alarm chains are meant to be pulled. But only in emergency…. Please donot pull it without valid cause… You will get fined. 806 people have been detained this year for needlessly pulling chains and delaying trains. We need your help to run trains on time.’
According to Section 141 of the Railway Act, if a passenger without reasonable and sufficient cause makes use of the alarm chain provided by a railway administration, he/she will have to a pay of Rs 500 for the first time.
Moreover, as per Section 141, if a person is found to be needlessly pulling alarm chains for a second time, he/she will be imprisoned for a period of three months.
Apart from detaining 806 people so far this year for needlessly pulling alarm chains, the NFR authority also informed that a total of 1,818 people have been slapped with fines for littering in trains in the current year.
From the passengers having habit of littering inside trains, the NFR has collected a total amount of Rs 3,65,895.
