BJP national vice-president and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Saturday said in Guwahati the Clause 6 committee for implementation of the Assam Accord will be re-constituted.
Most of the members of the high-level committee instituted by the BJP-led NDA government to implement the Clause 6 of Assam Accord refused to be part of it as a mark of protest against the Centre’s move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The nominated members included Assam’s noted personalities Dhirendra Nath Bezbaruah, Dr. Nagen Saikia, Rong Bong Terang, Mukunda Rajbangshi, Ramesh Borpatragohain and one representative of the All Assam Students Union (AASU).

The development took place after the State witnessed series of protests in different parts against the Citizenship Bill.
“The high-level committee to implement the Clause 6 of Assam Accord is Cabinet-constituted committee and not a bill. So, once the Government changes in the Centre, the recommendations of the committee will not mean anything,” said Dr Saikia, who is a former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who is Assam visit, made the announcement regarding reconstitution of the high-level committee while addressing the media in Guwahati on Saturday.
Keeping in view the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019, Chauhan also addressed a special organizational meeting of Cluster 1 Lok Sabha constituency of Assam BJP at Amingaon in Kamrup district.
Along with other BJP leaders, the meeting at Amingaon was also attended by Assam irrigation minister Bhabesh Kalita, Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty, Hajo MLA Suman Haripriya and BJP’s nationa secretary in charge of Assam BJP and Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Rural Development, Medical & Health (MoS) Dr Mahendra Singh.
While addressing a gathering at Amingaon, Chauhan said, “We are taking suggestions from farmers to make farming a business of profit. A 5-year roadmap will be made by the Bharatiya Janata Party on the basis of it.”
“When Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister for the second time, then he will implement it,” he added.
He also said, “The Assam chief minister and his team have given a new speed to the development of Assam and has made many schemes of public welfare. I am glad that we are moving fast on the path of development. I congratulate the state government for this too.”
Chauhan urged the party workers to work hard in order to make Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister for the second time.
