New book on Assamese travel literature released

The book was launched by Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University vice-chancellor Dipak Kumar Sharma.

Adhunik Asomiya Bhraman Sahitya: Oitihya Aru Shilpa, a research-based book on Assamese travelogue, was released recently at an event in Guwahati.

The book, authored by Smiti Rekha Bhuyan, who teaches Assamese literature at Guwahati College, chronicles the growth and development of modern Assamese travel writing.

Written in a very lucid, easy-to-understand style, this is a first of its kind book on the subject, said well-known novelist Lakshmi Nandan Bora.

In the book that contains 12 chapters, the writer has done a critical survey of the Assamese travelogues written by some celebrated writers.

The 400-page book has been published by city-based publishing house Purbayan Prakashan.
