North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) in collaboration with the Industries & Commerce department of Assam government successfully promoted Assam Tea at the India International Trade Fair 2021 (IITF 2021).
The India International Trade Fair 2021 was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from November 14-27.
An exclusive stall for Assam Tea was set up at the Assam Pavilion where all varieties of top-quality Assam tea were served.
Visitors to IITF thronged the stall to have a taste of garden-fresh authentic Assam tea.
On average, about 500 cups of tea were served daily in hygienic food-grade cups.
“The whole purpose was that people should have the real taste of Assam tea in natural form and thereby increase in per capita consumption of tea in India,” said a statement issued by Bidyananda Barkakoty, adviser, NETA.
It needs mention here that the Tea Board had engaged M/s Deloitte Touch? Tohmatsu India LLP to do a study on “Domestic Consumption of Tea in India”.
As per the Deloitte report of June 2018, “Apparent Annual per capita consumption of tea in India stands at 0.78 kg. per person in comparison to other countries in the world, Turkey (3.2 Kg), Morocco (1.86 Kg), UK (1.58 Kg) and even neighbouring countries like Pakistan (0.81 Kg) and China (1.31 Kg)”.
NETA in association with Hotel Vivanta, Guwahati organised a tea brewing session on November 25, 2021, which is a first-of-its-kind event.
“Water is the mother of tea. Good tea and good water match perfectly. A satisfactory cup of tea depends to a great extent on the quality and temperature of water, the tea-water ratio, and how long tea is steeped, besides the quality of the tea itself,” the statement said.
The Assam Tea Stall at IITF 2021 was visited by the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, Principal Secretary of Assam government Dr KK Dwivedi, Principal Resident Commissioner Rajeev Chandra Joshi, cartoonist Jagjeet Rana and many other dignitaries.
