National Investigation Agency convicts one in 2014 killings in Assam

A court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently convicted one person named Gautam Mahalia for his involvement in the brutal attacks of December 2014 in Assam.

After listening to the petition of the accused person, the special judge of the court sentenced Mahalia to four-and-a-half years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

The court said that the sentences would run concurrently.

As per reports, this is the first conviction in this case and the third in a series of cases registered after the ethnic killings carried out by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (anti-talks faction) terrorists at various places in Assam in December 23, 2014.

The Songbijit faction of the NDFB had attacked innocent villagers of Pakiriguri under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district of the state in the year 2014. During the attack five persons were killed while five others were seriously injured.

Mahalia has been in judicial custody after his arrest in January 2015.
