The 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletic Championship, 2018 is all set to begin in Guwahati from Tuesday.
Assam’s track sensation Hima Das who is also the brand ambassador of the championship will participate in the 200m and 400m sprint events.
The secretary of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), CK Valson, said that since the championship is the last before the Asian Games that will begin from August this year, participation is mandatory for all the players to take part in the championship to qualify.
32 events will be played each day starting from Tuesday till June 29. Walking and marathon are excluded. Around 750 athletes and more than 100 technical officials from across India will be present.
The athletes have been accommodated in the quarters of the Administrative Staff College and hotels. State government has also made arrangements for the transport of the athletes by air-conditioned buses.
PT Usha who was at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Sarusajai on Monday at a press meet showered praise on Hima Das who was also present at the press meet. Usha lauded the State government and the Assam Athletic Federation for hosting the championship on such short notice.
The Assam Athletics Association will officially announce the 15-member state squad on the eve of the meet.
