The police in southern Assam’s Karimganj district on Saturday deported a Bangladeshi national who was detained for violating the provisions of the Visa Act.

Police on Thursday arrested Mufti Hossain Mohammad Siddique, a resident of Brahmanbaria in Bangladesh, for allegedly attending various religious gatherings in Assam violating the Visa Act, said a police official.

Karimganj additional superintendent of police (ASP) Pankaj Yadav said the Bangladeshi national had entered India on February 2 on a medical visa and was addressing various religious ceremonies in Assam by violating the Visa law.

Karimganj police arrested him on Thursday and sent him back to Bangladesh through Sutarkandi land port, after receiving information that he had attended a religious function in Patharkandi.
