In a sensational turn of events in the gruesome murder case of an elderly couple in Assam’s Guwahati, the caretaker, Akash Choudhury, has emerged as the mastermind.
Akash Choudhury’s fingerprints were found at the crime scene. The police arrested him on charges of his involvement in the case while his wife is being interrogated.
The development was confirmed by Guwahati police commissioner Harmeet Singh on Wednesday.
Akash Choudhury, who originally hails from Bihar and his wife were detained by the police on Tuesday and questioned at the Dispur police station.
Aksh remained the caretaker of the couple for the last 20 years.
Akash Choudhury, who has been identified as the mastermind of the gruesome murder, was produced in the court of the chief judicial magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) on Wednesday and was remanded to 7-day police custody.
Apart from Akash, Guwahati Police Tuesday night detained two other accused on charges of being involved in the incident.
They have been identified as Buddhadeb alias Babul and Jon Saikia.
The police also detained two other persons, identified as Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury on Tuesday.
They were detained on the basis of the call details found in Akash’s mobile phone.
However, despite marathon interrogations, Akash is yet to confess that he committed the crime.

Sensation prevailed after the murder of an aged couple in the Beltola area of Guwahati on Monday night.
The incident was reported from Chandan Nagar in Beltola’s Survey area.
The victim couple has been identified as 86-year-old Nani Gopal Barua and his wife 81-year-old Meena Barua.
The blood-stained bodies of the aged couple were recovered from the bedroom of their residence in the morning on Tuesday.
While one of the daughters of the couple lives in London, another daughter lives in Mumbai.
Question of security in the capital city of Assam has been raised after the murder of the aged couple in their bedroom.
