Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Communications, Manoj Sinha called on Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Tuesday evening at the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati and discussed on various facets for the development of communication technology in the State. This was stated in an official press release.
During the meeting the Union Minister assured that his ministry would pump in substantial chunk of money for building a dedicated network of cyber highway in the State.
He also informed the Governor that his Ministry has attached high priority for connecting the Gaon Panchayats across the State by high speed optical fibre network to enable the rural people to reap the dividends of digital India.
He also said that his Ministry has been working dedicatedly to bridge the gap of digital divide to enable the rural people to take the benefits of direct and indirect employment opportunities in remote areas.
However the Union Minister conceded that in the North-east the project related to digitization is a bit sluggish because of various development activities like expansion of national highways by NHAI, hilly terrains etc.
Governor Prof Mukhi requested the Union Minister to accord top priority to the comprehensive implementation of BharatNet and other telecom projects including Digital India in Assam and assured all assistance from the State Government to take the projects to their logical conclusions, added the release.
