Bhuyan said termed the move of suspension of the 12 opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha as a “ploy to achieve majority” in the Upper House.
He said that majority in the Rajya Sabha would ensure that all listed bills would get passed “undemocratically without holding any discussions”.
“The suspension of 12 opposition MPs from Rajya Sabha is a ploy to achieve majority number in the Upper House and easily pass listed bills undemocratically without holding any discussion,” Assam Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan said.
Bhuyan added: “BJP has thwarted every aspect of Parliamentary democracy.”
Meanwhile, the 12 suspended Rajya Sabha MPs of the opposition staged a sit-in protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex on Wednesday.
Holding placards, the suspended Rajya Sabha MPs staged demonstration against their suspension from the House for the remaining part of the Winter session of Parliament.
“The suspension of MPs shows the arrogance of those in the majority. When they were in opposition, they also used to disrupt Parliament proceedings. We will continue our dharna till the time we don’t get justice,” said TMC MP Dola Sen.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has also criticised the move of suspension of the MPs.
“Centre has to realize that in this country other voices deserve to be heard. Parliament is for debate and discussion, you have to allow people to express their views, only then can you truly run a democratic Parliament,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said.
“We are demanding the revocation of suspension of 12 Opposition members of the Rajya Sabha. We will hold a meeting and decide the future course of action,” Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha – Mallikarjun Kharge said.
