The general public in Assam are likely to face more harassment in the coming months if the BJP retains power in the State.

The Assam BJP is reportedly mulling to bring in a law, if voted to power, according to which a couple would require to disclose their religion, income etc. before marriage.

The Assam BJP will include the promise of this law in its manifesto for the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections.

Informing this, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In our manifesto, we are going to promise a comprehensive Bill on disclosure of confidentiality clause while engaging in a marriage ceremony. One will have to first disclose their identity, religion, income everything before one enters into a marriage with any girl.”

“The law would also require couples from same religion to furnish details about themselves and their families,” Sarma added.
