Guwahati: As the countdown begins for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister, outgoing Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita from Assam are likely to be inducted into the Union Council of Ministers.

According to reports, Sonowal is expected to receive a cabinet berth, while Margherita may be appointed as a Minister of State. All MPs who will take the oath of office along with Narendra Modi were invited to Modi’s residence for tea at 11:30 am.

Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sonowal won the Dibrugarh seat in Assam for the second time, defeating Lurinjyoti Gogoi of AJP by a margin of 279,321 votes. Sonowal, a Rajya Sabha MP, secured 693,762 votes, while Gogoi received 414,441 votes.

In the last cabinet of Modi, Sonowal held the portfolio of Ports, Shipping, Waterways, and AYUSH. Margherita was elected to the Rajya Sabha in March 2022 as a BJP nominee.
