Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year.
Interestingly Modi’s greeting in Twitter is in Assamese.
Today is the first day of Bohag, the first month of the Assamese calendar.
But unlike previous occasions, the entire State of Assam is wearing a deserted and gloomy look amid the COVID-19 lockdown.
People have kept themselves away from celebrating Rongali Bihu this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
All the Bihu committees have cancelled their programmes with just minimum rituals like flag hoisting.
The 21-day country-wide lockdown is scheduled to end on Tuesday midnight.
But, in every likelihood the lockdown period will be extended till April 30 next.
However, some relaxations are expected for the second phase of lockdown.
