BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate for Shillong parliamentary seat in Meghalaya Sanbor Shullai has opposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill despite the saffron party making it clear that the party will bring back the controversial Bill.

“Until Sanbor Shullai is alive CAB will not be implemented. I’ll kill myself, I’ll commit suicide before Narendra Modi if the Bill is implemented. But I’ll not let the CAB to be implemented. I’ll request Narendra Modi and I’ll fight against it,” said Shullai while interacting with newsmen in Shillong on Thursday.

Shullai’s statement came on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public rally at Silchar in Assam’s Barak Valley on Thursday assures to bring back the Citizenship Bill with some amendments.

“We are committed to bring back the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. However, we are going to take everyone one into confidence to ensure that there is no injustice mated out to anyone due to implementation of the Bill,” Modi said in Silchar on Thursday.

Apart from Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah had also time and again made it clear that the BJP is going to bring back the controversial Bill if the party comes to power at the Centre.

The party in its poll manifesto has also clearly mentioned that it will bring back the CAB if it is voted to power again.

The BJP had passed the Bill in Lok Sabha on January 8 this year. The ruling alliance, however, failed to introduce and get it passed in the Rajya Sabha due to opposition by several opposition parties.
