Meghalaya’s promising cricketer Punit Bisht showed sheer grit in a plate group match of the Ranji Trophy by scoring a triple century against Sikkim.

Led by Punit Bisht’s unbeaten 301, Meghalaya mounted a massive 555 for 3 at stumps on day two.

Only one wicket fell through the course of the day as R Biswa (175) and Bisht plundered 433 runs for the third wicket.

Meghalaya’s lead over Sikkim has swelled to 336 runs.

Even Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the feat of the young cricketer.

Conrad took to Twitter to laud the stupendous feat of Bisht where he wrote:

‘Congratulations Punit Bisht!

#Punit you made #Meghalaya proud by scoring an unbeaten 301 runs against Sikkim today in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match at Bhubaneshwar.’

In another match, Rongsen Jonathan’s 131 helped Nagaland reach 377 for nine before they declared their first innings.

However, it was Abrar Kazi’s four wickets which eventually helped Nagaland end the day on top.

Arunachal Pradesh failed to give a strong reply after conceding the first innings lead and were reduced to 98 for 7 at stumps, still trailing by 144 runs.

Samar Quadri’s six-wickets – his second five wickets haul of the season and eighth of the career – in the first innings bundled out Mizoram for 77 after Bihar declared on 440/9, courtesy Ashutosh Aman and Vivek’s centuries.

Mizoram were asked to follow on 85 for 1 on stumps, with Quadri scalping two more.

Meanwhile, in an elite group match, Rishav Das’s 95 helped Assam fight back and helped Assam post 245 in their second innings, despite three-wickets from Irfan Pathan and Parvez Rasool.

Chasing a target of 230, Jammu & Kashmir lost opener Ahmad Banday early.
