A get together programme for the new engineering students’ was held at the Regional Institute of Science and Technology on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Saurabh Basu, Professor of Physics & Dean Education Outreach Program, IIT, Guwahati stated, an innovative mind is must for young students while pursuing competitive and higher studies.  Students should never be hesitant to take innovative steps and become entrepreneurs to take forward the nation towards progress.

Addressing the students, Prof Basu explained how to crack different competitive entrance exams like JEE, JAM, GATE to study in IIT. He advised the students to go through previous five years’ entrance question papers so that they can get the concepts which will help the students crack the exams.

He also advised students to go through various books as well as online learning portals. “With hardwork and dedication only one can achieve success”, he added.

Among the different events held, a highlight was the Mr and Ms Freshers 2018 contests , which was judged by popular figures like RJ Mandy, Udayan Deworah and Achyut Kalita.

A special award for high attendance of student for academic session August 2017 to July-2018 was also given.

Earlier, Dr PC Mahanta, Director, RIST welcomed all the participants and guests. The programme was also addressed by Dr. PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr PK Pathak. Head of the Department of Civil, RIST.
