Tension prevails along the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya after three youths of the district were allegedly assaulted by personnel of Assam police. 

The three youths were reportedly allegedly assaulted by Assam police personnel at Umlaper village in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district on Monday night. 

Since then, shimmering tensions have been prevailing along the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border. 

According to reports, two youths sustained grievous injuries and one managed a narrow escape after they were reportedly assaulted by Assam Police personnel.

The youths were reportedly on their way back home from Mawlasnai, when they were allegedly assaulted by Assam police personnel. 

Meanwhile, locals of the area have expressed disappointment and anger over the alleged assault and took to streets to protest. 

Top officials of the Ri-Bhoi district administration in Meghalaya rushed to the spot to control the situation and prevent further escalation of tensions. 

Meanwhile, according to reports, the situation has been resolved following discussions between the officials of Ri-Bhoi and Assam’s West Karbi Anglong districts.

Assam police have also agreed to remove the temporary camp at Umlaper village so that normalcy is restored at Umlaper village, said reports. 

The incident has been reported at a time when the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya have been holding discussions to resolve the inter-state border disputes.
