Former Assam chief minister and union minister Sarbananda Sonowal has exuded confidence that the BJP will perform exceedingly well in the upcoming by-polls.

The people of Mariani are with the BJP-led alliance government in Assam. This is what Sarbananda Sonowal said while campaigning for BJP’s Mariani candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi on Tuesday.

“The people of Mariani are with BJP-led alliance,” said Sarbananda Sonowal after addressing a public rally in the constituency on Tuesday.

While addressing a massive rally, the former Assam chief minister appealed the people of Mariani to vote for Rupjyoti Kurmi in the bypolls.

“Glad to see the huge support and I urge all to ensure victory of BJP candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi with a huge margin,” said Sonowal while addressing a rally in Mariani.

Rupjyoti Kurmi had won the Assembly elections held in Assam earlier this year from Mariani seat on a Congress ticket.

Later, after Congress failed to win the Assembly elections, Kurmi quit the party and joined the BJP. He had resigned as an MLA after quitting Congress, necessitating by-polls.

Mariani, along with Tamulpur, Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur and Thowra constituencies, will go to polls on October 30. Votes will be counted on November 2.
