The host Manipur topped the medal tally of the ongoing first edition of North East Olympic Games 2018 which is underway in the State at three different venues including Khuman Lampak sports complex since Wednesday.

Manipur bagged a total of 47 medals including 19 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronzes.

Manipur is closely followed by Arunachal Pradesh by winning 12 gold, five silver and 14 bronze medals while Assam occupies the third place in the tally with 10 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Assam’s gold medals came from judo, athletics, taekwondo etc while Manipur bagged gold medals from wushu, judo etc.

Athlete Tsuchoi T opened the gold medal account of Nagaland by winning 5000 metres race in women category. She finished at 19:15:57 minutes while her colleague Sangmo, also from Nagaland reach the finishing point at 19:50:012 to secure the second position.

The third place goes to Yabang Tali of Arunachal Pradesh (20:05:32).

Other two gold medals came from karate and shot put (men) events.

Nagaland is palced in the fourth place in the medal tally with three gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

So far Mizoram bagged only one gold, four silver and 10 bronze medals while Sikkim won one silver and four bronze medals.

Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura are yet to get gold medals in the games.

Meghalaya so far bagged four silver, seven bronze medals while Sikkim got one silver and five bronze medals.

Tripura bagged just one silver and four bronze medals till the till filing of this report.

It may be mentioned that North East Olympic Games organized by Manipur Olympic Association began with active participation of nearly 2000 participants including officials from eight participating north-eastern states including Sikkim to complete in 12 sports disciplines during the five-day long Games.

The disciplines are archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting and wushu.
