A security guard stationed outside the residence of Manipur BJP president A Sharada Devi was killed when he was shot at by a fellow guard in Imphal on Friday.
Police officials said the victim, identified as A Bimol Sharma, was allegedly shot at around 10 a.m by fellow security guard, Thonginthang Baite, with his service rifle (AK series) in the face.
The critically injured security man was rushed to a private hospital in Imphal but he succumbed to injuries in the evening, Indian Express reported.
Both the victim and accused belonged to the 7th Manipur Rifles battalion.
As many as 16 security personnel of the 7th MR were detailed for the security of the state BJP chief.
Police have arrested the accused and booked him under the relevant sections of the IPC in connection with the incident.
BJP president A Sharda Devi and her husband A Jashobanta was not at home when the incident took place.
