An employee of a shop was killed at Kumarpara area under Bharalumukh police station here when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him on Thursday evening.
The victim has been identified as Shyam Sundar Sharma and he originally hails from Rajasthan.
Locals said two motorcycle borne miscreants opened fire on Shyam around 5.30 pm and fled from the spot.
He was rushed to city’s Marowari Maternity hospital in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries after sometime.
The reason of the firing has not yet been ascertained.
Top police officials reached the spot and began investigation.
Police have recovered a bag from the spot. Police suspect the attack was carried by hired criminals.
“Preliminary investigation indicates, hired criminals committed the firing. Everything will be clear after thorough investigation,” Debraj Upadhyay, joint commissioner of Guwahati police, told reporters.
