Majuli district Agriculture Department organized a workshop on farmers’ welfare in both the development blocks in Majuli as a part of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan on Wednesday.
The workshop for the farmers of Majuli Development Block was held at Kamalabari’s Majuli Milan Sangha and the workshop for the farmers of Upper Majuli Development Block was held at the block’s auditorium.
Officials from Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Department of Fisheries and Department of Handloom Textile and Sericulture were present in the workshops held at both the development blocks.
Majuli District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Arun Kumar Pathak presided over the workshop held at Kamalabari’s Majuli Milan Sangha.
Majuli Revenue Circle Veterinary officer Dr Dandadhar Barman, Agriculture Engineering Department Assistant Executive Engineer Bhupen Das, Fishery Development Officer Jugal Hazarika and Sericulture Development Officer Debojit Saikia spoke about different welfare schemes taken for the farmers of the river island.
The officials also spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
A total of eight farmers were felicitated in the programmes for their performance in agriculture, fishery and animal husbandry.
A free livestock vaccination drive was also launched in various villages of Gormur in Majuli Development Block and at Monvalsuk of Upper Majuli Development Block.
