The Assam Congress, on Thursday, lambasted the BJP-led government in the state over the boat capsize incident in Majuli district Wednesday evening.
Slamming the state government and the BJP, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah said that the saffron party “only cares” about the votes in the constituency.
“It (BJP) doesn’t care about the promises it made during the elections. BJP only cares about the votes in the constituency,” Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah said.
The Assam Congress has also demanded resignation of state inland water transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

“This BJP-led state government has done enough of Bhumi Pujans and Namani Brahmaputras. Its time for the party and the government to do some real work,” said Bhupen Borah.
In the run-up to the 2016 Assam Assembly elections, the BJP had promised construction of a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Majuli with Jorhat.
However, the bridge is still a distant dream for the residents even though the BJP is well into its second innings in the state.
