Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan. Northeast Now

Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan has taken over the charge as the Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) on Monday.

Lt Gen Sangwan has taken over as the 20th Director General of the Force which is popularly called as Sentinels of the North East, stated the spokesperson at DGAR, Shillong.

The General Officer is an alumnus of Officers Training School, Chennai and was commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles in August 1982.

He is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College Wellington, College of Defence Management Secunderabad & the prestigious National Defence College.

Lt Gen Sangwan has a vast combat experience including counter insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Nagaland.

He also participated in Operation Blue Star, Operation Vijay and Operation Parakram.

The General commanded his unit 21 Rajputana Rifles in East Sikkim and Assam, a Mountain Brigade in Super High Altitude Area in North Sikkim and an elite Mountain Division in Arunachal Pradesh.

He also has the distinction of serving as the Commandant of the Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre in Delhi. The General Officer has twice been bestowed with Sena Medal for distinguished service after successful command of his Brigade as well as Division. In addition, he is a recipient of CISC’s Commendation Card.

The new Director General ventures into literary pursuits and has authored a book on ‘Integrated Force Projection by India’ and co-authored another one on ‘Comprehensive National Power’.

“He takes keen interest in poetry as well. The General officer and his wife Sangeeta Sangwan are keen environmentalists and pursue the same with passion,” the Assam Rifles spokesperson informed.
