The Centre doesn’t listen to Northeast as there is less number of MPs in the Lok Sabha, said All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) president Peter Laishram.

He was speaking at the open session of the 47th Annual General Conference of Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) (Bijoy Bey-faction) at Langkangsam Aklam on Friday.

“Andra Pradesh has 25 MPs, Madhya Pradesh has 29 MPs and Maharastra has 48 MPs. But northeast, which comprises of 8 states, have only 24 Lok Sabha MPs,” Laishram said.

“The Central government pays attention to the demands of only those states which have a high number of MPs,” he said.

“Since Northeast lacks the number, the Centre is least bothered to the problems of the region,” he reiterated.

Lashing out at the government for amending the Citizenship Act, he said, “Centre has come up with CAA, which is anti-indigenous and is a threat to our language, culture and identity.”

He further said the central government is only interested with extracting of resources from the northeast.

“We must stand united and fight with our full strength against any kind of invasion,” Laishram added.
