A faction of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) led by Semson Teron said that the statement made by its President at a meeting on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at Hawaipur in West Karbi Anglong on April 15 which went against the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, was not to harm anybody’s sentiment.
Teron in a meeting held in Hawaipur allegedly compared the CEM of KAAC with a ‘wild boar’ which was livestreamed on Facebook. The video later went viral in the constituency.
Demanding public apology, a section of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of Bithung Rengthama took umbrage at criticism of their leader and gathered at PWD IB, Kalanga in West Karbi Anglong on April 16 and asked the KSA leaders to attend the same which the later did not.
However, the West Karbi Anglong District Committee of BJP confirmed that the meeting had no official sanction and if the meeting was held at all it was done at the personal level.
At the meeting, Rongkhang BJP Mandal General Secretary Tarzan Langthasa, former Veterinary Board Chairman Dittolal Hasnu and VDC Chairman Ramson Rongpi were present among others.
The KSA held a press conference on Tuesday at Kheroni Guest House of the Agriculture Department in which KSA President clarified his stand.
KSA President Teron said, “My statement was not to hurt the sentiment of anyone. If it has, then, it was a slip of tongue and it was unfortunate.”
In the same press conference, KSA General Secretary Mandal Engti said that a person in the responsible post of CEM of KAAC is unable to bear criticism.
