Peasants’ organization the Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammittee (KMSS) has demanded a CBI probe into the Assam Police SI recruitment question paper leak.
The KMSS expressed displeasure over the pace of investigation into the question paper leak case and demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI.
The Assam government on September 20 cancelled the written examination and ordered a probe into the Sub-Inspector recruitment scam.
The KMSS on Monday burnt the effigy of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Chowkidinghee intersection in Dibrugarh in protest against the SI examination question paper leak and in support of their demand for repeal of the recently enacted farm bills.
Suspecting political conspiracy in the scam, the protesters said that the country’s highest investigative agency must be given the responsibility to handle the case.
They said that the scam has revealed the incompetence of the home department, which is headed by Sonowal.
The chairman of Assam State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) Pradeep Kumar quit the post on Sunday citing moral responsibility for the recruitment test paper leak.
Following the direction of chief minister Sonowal, the CID and the crime branch of Assam Police are probing the exam paper leak issue.
The investigating team has raided various locations including that of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prasanta Kumar Dutta, who is now on the run.
According to the police, so far 14 people, including a woman employee of the state irrigation department and one from the Special Task Force of Assam Police, have been arrested in connection with the scam.
